How to connect USB Pendrive or Modem to Android Smartphone

This post covers information about how you can connect USB storage devices i.e. Pendrive, USB Harddisk and Internet Dongle to your android smartphone.

To connect USB to your android smartphone you will require OTG USB cable which is also known as On-the-go USB cable which has USB female port in which you can plug USB device.

If you are not having it you can buy it online at below links.

If you stay in India then you buy from Flipkart here or else you can buy with Amazon here.

If you want original Samsung OTG USB cable then you can buy it from Amazon.com here

Once you have it and you are having latest android smartphone then that’s it you are ready to connect USB storage devices or dongle to your android phone like below.

(By latest smartphone I mean smartphones like Sony Xperia C, Moto G, Xiaomi Mi3, Samsung Note or any other smartphone which is having latest android version as some of the android with older version requires your device to be rooted and also you require an app to get USB detected).

How to connect USB Pendrive or Modem to Android Smartphone

Once you connect USB to android using OTG cable you will able to see the message “USB device connected…” like one in the above image. Then you can transfer files between android and USB from any file manager.

I have tested this with my Xperia C and Mi3,Moto G and Samsung Grand 2.

If still you are not able to get USB detected then you can try installing StickMap from Google Play.
